Case study: Dimensional paper

Explored the art of origami/paper folding, and correlating it with digital fabrication and 3d printing. Evolving a fragile paper model to a solid useful or abstract product. I was selected to show and tell and speak in front of a live audience at the 2016 New York Maker Faire and 2017 San Francisco Maker Faire.

Process

• Fold 10+ origami models; different structures but similar shape
• 3d scanned the simplest model
• Refined the scanned model to make it compatible for 3d printing
• 3d printed on various materials and sizes
• Explored the form and structure for different uses; piece of art, paper weight, jewelry piece, etc
